Spruce Grove sits just west of Edmonton along Highway 16, about 30 minutes (28 km) from downtown outside rush hour: close enough for an easy commute and far enough to feel like its own city. Families come for the newer neighbourhoods, the parks and the walking trails, and stay for the small-city pace: you can cross town in minutes, and most errands are a short drive away.
The city has grown quickly, so there is a wide mix of homes, from established streets near the original downtown to new subdivisions on the edges. The TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre, shared with neighbouring Stony Plain and Parkland County, is one of the largest recreation centres in the region, and the historic grain elevator downtown is a reminder of the city's farming roots.
